Provincial Conferences

A number of important provincial conferences and lobbies for women groups occurred in the 70s and 80s, which gave women the opportunity to discuss issues, educate each other, and work on united plans of action. Among these were the provincial conferences of Status of Women Councils. The first one was held in 1978 and hosted by the Corner Brook Status of Women Council. The next provincial conference was in 1980 and then continued annually after that (except in 1987) as follows:

1981:     “Our Sexual Beings”. Hosted by the Newfoundland Status of Women Council (later known as the St. John’s Status of Women Council).
